Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the effect of PDT laser on the treatment of sub macular neovascular with causes other than aged related macular degeneration. Subject and method: Case series study. The subjects had sub- macular neovascular membrane with causes other than aged related macular degeneration such as severe myopia, Bruch membrane rupture… were treated in Regional Hospital in Tarbes, France between September 2001 and September 2002. Laser PDT is performed after intravenous administration of veteporfine. Vision acuity, patient satisfaction, and lesion size were evaluated immediately after the laser and after 1 month, 1 year. Result: We conducted PDT for 7 patients (7 eyes) with sub macular neovascular membrane due to severe myopia (6 eyes) and Bruch membrane break (1 eye) within 1 year. After treatment, patients were satisfied by reducing or ceasing metamorphopsie despite visual acuity (4 eyes raise, 3 eyes decrease AV). On the fluorescence angiograph, 5 eyes have reduced wound size and 2 eyes size increase even not much. Conclusion: Laser PDT is an effective sub macular neovasular treatment.
