Abstract
Summary
Objective: To evaluate of CARATkids questionaires for assessment of asthma control in children with asthma combined allergic rhinitis. Subject and method: This was a case series study of 82 childhood asthma combined with allergis rhinitis aged between 6 to 15 years old which were examined, performed lung function tests and assessed asthma control at the initial visit, after 1 month and 3 months of treatment. Asthma control was assessed using ACT questionnaires and CARATkids questionnaires. This study was performed at the Department of Allergy - Immunology and Rhematology, Vietnam National Children's Hospital. Result: The mean score of CARATkids at the initial visit was 9.4 ± 3.3, the score of uncontrolled group was 9.7 ± 2.2 in comparision with 7.4 ± 2.7 in controlled group, p<0.001. There were the negative correlations between CARATkids score and lung function index such as PEF (r=-0.254, p=0.02), FEV1 (r= -0.195, p=0.08) and ACT score (r = -0.629, p=0.003). After 3 months of treatment, CARATKids score was 3 ± 4.9, lower than initial visit, p<0.05). Both ACT questionaires and CARATkids questionaires are valid for assessment of asthma control in children. Conclusion: CARATKids is valid tool to assess the control allergic rhinitis and asthma in children.
