Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of ultrasound-guided transcervical radiofrequency ablation for uterine fibroids at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 2024 to 2026. Subject and method: A prospective single-group pre-post follow-up study using convenience sampling was conducted in 54 patients who underwent radiofrequency ablation at Can Tho Obstetrics and Gynecology Hospital from 2024 to 2026. Fibroid volume was calculated using the ellipsoid formula before treatment and at 1 and 3 months after treatment. The volume reduction rate was calculated at 1 and 3 months relative to the pretreatment volume. The Symptom Severity Score and Health-Related Quality of Life score of the UFS-QOL questionnaire were assessed before treatment and 3 months after treatment. Comparisons were performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Result: The overall treatment success rate at 3 months was 88.9%. The median procedure time was 50.0 (40.0 - 60.0) minutes, and the median post-procedural VAS pain score was 4.0 (2.0 - 6.0) points. The mean fibroid volume decreased from 89.5 ± 57.4cm³ before treatment to 66.6 ± 51.1cm³ at 1 month and 57.2 ± 51.2cm³ at 3 months. The difference between the pretreatment and 3-month volumes was statistically significant (p<0.001). Symptom severity and quality of life improved markedly: The Symptom Severity Score decreased from 61.0 (43.8 - 68.8) to 31.3 (26.6 - 40.6), while the Health-Related Quality of Life score increased from 39.7 (32.8 - 50.4) to 66.4 (63.8 - 73.5) at 3 months after treatment. These differences were statistically significant (p<0.001). Conclusion: Ultrasound-guided transcervical radiofrequency ablation was associated with a reduction in fibroid volume over time, a low complication rate during the 3-month follow-up, and marked improvements in quality of life.
