Analysis of clinical characteristics and associated factors in patients with xanthelasma palpebrarum at 108 Military Central Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To analyze clinical characteristics and investigate associated factors in patients with xanthelasma palpebrarum. Subject and method: Cross-sectional descriptive study on 51 patients diagnosed with xanthelasma palpebrarum at the Aesthetic Center, 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2025 to April 2026. Patients underwent clinical examination, Lee grading assessment, lipid profile testing, with data analysis using SPSS 27.0. Result: The female/male ratio was 11.7/1 (female 92.2%, male 7.8%); mean age 50.9 ± 8.4 years; 78.4% aged 40-59 years. The leading risk factor was dyslipidemia (72.5%); 64.7% had the disease for more than 1 year. Lesions occurred on the upper eyelid in 98.0% of cases, bilaterally symmetrical in 72.5%; Lee grade I accounted for 56.9% and grade III + IV for 41.2%. A statistically significant association was found between disease duration and Lee grade (p = 0.007), indicating gradual progression and extension of lesions over time. 84.3% had no functional symptoms but 51.0% suffered moderate-to-severe psychological impact. Conclusion: Xanthelasma palpebrarum mainly affects middle-aged women, is associated with dyslipidemia, lesions are predominantly on the upper eyelid and bilaterally symmetrical, causing significant psychological impact.
