Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of advanced nursing care for patients with acute exacerbations of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) receiving continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) noninvasive ventilation at 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: This cross-sectional study was conducted on 30 patients with acute exacerbations of COPD indicated for noninvasive ventilation and treated at the Department of Respiratory Medicine, 108 Military Central Hospital, from July 2024 to June 2025. Result: The failure rate requiring conversion to invasive mechanical ventilation after CPAP therapy was 3.3% (1/30) in the advanced nursing care group. Nursing interventions significantly improved SpO2, respiratory rate, and PaCO2 after 24 - 48 hours of CPAP use. The rates of ICU transfer and treatment interruption were low, while patient satisfaction was high. Conclusion: Advanced nursing care interventions improve the effectiveness of CPAP therapy in patients with acute exacerbations of COPD, reduce the risk of progressive respiratory failure, and enhance treatment quality.
