Analysis of masticatory indices using T-Scan in Kinh individuals aged 18-25 with Angle class II malocclusion in Hanoi, 2025

Abstract
Objective: Determine the characteristics of masticatory indices in Kinh adults aged 18-25 years with Angle Class II malocclusion in Hanoi in 2025. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive analysis using T-Scan in 60 Kinh participants aged 18-25 years presenting with Angle Class II malocclusion. Results: There was no statistically significant difference between males and females, or between the right and left sides of the dental arch, in chewing force (kg), chewing ratio (%), or the number of functional teeth (p>0,05). However, when comparing the masticatory indices between Angle Class II division 1 and division 2 malocclusions, statistically significant differences were observed in all variables with p<0,0001; except for total bite force. Conclusion: In the two groups with Angle Class II division 1 and division 2 malocclusions, the distribution of occlusal force between the right and left sides of the arch and between genders showed no statistically significant differences. Class II division 1 exhibited a concentration of masticatory force mainly on the molar region, whereas Class II division 2 demonstrated a forward shift of the masticatory center toward the anterior and canine regions. This reflects the distinct morphological characteristics of each subtype and highlights the influence of malocclusion on masticatory function
