Cardiovascular Disease Patterns and Treatment Outcomes among Lao Patients at the International Department of 108 Military Central Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To describe the pattern of cardiovascular diseases and treatment outcomes among Lao inpatients treated at the International Department, 108 Military Central Hospital, from January 2024 to December 2025. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 103 Lao inpatients treated at the International Department of 108 Military Central Hospital between January 1, 2024 and December 31, 2025. All patients had complete electronic medical records available in the VIMES system. Results: The mean age was 61.2 ± 13.5 years; males accounted for 65.0% of the cohort. The mean length of hospital stay was 20.4 ± 15.3 days. A disease duration of 1 - 5 years was most common (43.7%). The 60 - 79-year age group accounted for the highest proportion (57.3%). Cardiovascular multimorbidity (≥ 2 conditions) was observed in 55.3% of patients. Hypertension was the most prevalent condition (63.1%), followed by coronary artery disease (33.0%) and heart failure (17.5%). Treatment outcomes were as follows: good recovery/improvement in 64.1%, stable condition in 29.1%, and severe complications in 6.8% predominantly stroke with hemiplegic sequelae (2.91%). Conclusion: Lao patients with cardiovascular diseases treated at the International Department exhibited disease patterns consistent with general epidemiological trends. Treatment outcomes were favorable, with a high rate of improvement and a low rate of severe complications.
