Outcomes of Supermicrosurgery Technique Application in Amputated Extremity Replantation

Abstract
Introduction: Objective of this report is to evaluate the results of supermicrosurgery technique application to total or subtotal amputated extremity replantation. Subject and method: Case series report. From November 2015 to the December 2022, we had applied supermicrosurgery technique in replantation procedures for 6 amputated fingers in 6 children between the age of 30 months and 8 years and 9 amputated fingertips. Result: The survival rate of finger replantation in children was 6 out of 6 and that of fingertip replantation was 7 out of 9. In group of fingertip replantation, the survival rate due to sharp cut injuries and crush cut injuries was 5 out of 5 and 2 out of 4 respectively. In 9 fingertip replantations, there were 4 cases which had to be performed external bleeding procedure with the successful rate was 2/4. There were seven successful fingertip replantation cases. All of them were distal interphalangeal joint fused and united after 2 months. Moreover, sensory recovery was greater than S3+, 1/7 cases had pulp atrophy complication, 1/7 cases had nail deformity. Conclusion: Supermicrosurgery technique applying to amputated extremity replantation achieved good results. This did not only enhance the experiences and skills for microsurgeons but it was also useful for this technique application in true perforator flaps transfer.
