Characteristics of anemia in liver cancer patients with hepatitis B virus

Abstract
Objective: Analyze the characteristics of anemia in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients with chronic HBV infection. Subject and method: A Cross-sectional descriptive study with comparison of control group including: 100 HCC patients with chronic HBV and 100 healthy people. Result: 42% of patients decreased HCT, 36% of patients decreased RBC and 27% of patients decreased HGB. In all subgroups, the HCC group had lower HGB index than the healthy group, but statistically significant differences were only noted in the male subgroup and the age group 55-65 years old. HGB concentration decreased in patients with symptoms of weight loss, jaundice and pale mucous membranes, collateral circulation, and ascites with p<0.05. Conclusion: Anemia occurs in 27% of HCC patients and is common in the 55-65 age group. The most common is decreased HCT and RBC. Anemia in HCC patients is associated with symptoms of weight loss, jaundice and pale mucous membranes, collateral circulation, and ascites.
