Abstract

Evaluation of the long-term outcomes of common bile duct (CBD) stone treatment using laparoscopic common bile duct exploration (LCBDE) combined with intraoperative cholangioscopy. Subject and Method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 172 patients diagnosed with CBD stones who underwent laparoscopic surgery at Can Tho City General Hospital from January 2017 to December 2021. Patients were followed up until December 2024. Result: The success rate of laparoscopic surgery was 97.67% (168/172). Among the successful cases, the  stone clearance rate was 93.45%, and the early complication rate was 8.93%. The mean operative time was 98.54 ± 26.19 minutes, and the mean length of hospital stay was 6.11 ± 5.17 days. The group undergoing primary closure of the CBD had a shorter hospital stay compared to the T-tube drainage group. With a mean follow-up of 4.5 years, the recurrence rate of stones was 8.33%, and biliary stricture occurred in 1.19% of patients. LCBDE combined with intraoperative cholangioscopy for the treatment of CBD stones is a safe and effective approach, providing a high success rate and favorable long-term outcomes.
