Abstract

Objective: To assess the knowledge, attitudes and practices applying moisturizers and to identify associations between factors and children the knowledge, attitudes and behaviours by parents or guardians of children under 15 years with atopic dermatitis. Subject and method: A descriptive cross-sectional study investigating 399 parents/guardians of pediatric patients (<15 years) diagnosed with atopic dermatitis (AD) from March 2024 to September 2024 at Hochiminh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology. Result: 87.7% of participants were aware of the need to use moisturizers in the management of atopic dermatitis, 67.9% expressed concerns about potential side effects. While 96.2% had reported use of moisturizers for their children, 59.6% discontinued application after improvement of xerosis. A stastistically significant difference was observed between caregiver gender and concerns about adverse effects, as well as between caregiver gender and household income with the likelihood of moisturizer use. Conclusion: The knowledge, attitudes, practices of parents and caregivers play an important role in optimizing the management of atopic dermatitis in children under 15 years of age.
