Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the changes in serum NT-proBNP levels and analyze associated factors in patients after cardiac surgery. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study with longitudinal follow-up and pre-post comparison was conducted on 96 patients after cardiac surgery from September 2023 to December 2024 at Military Hospital 175. Result: The mean age of patients was 63.2 ± 8.9 years, with males accounting for 67.7%. The prevalence of hypertension, ischemic cardiomyopathy, chronic heart failure, and diabetes mellitus was 78.1%, 77.1%, 28.1%, and 24.0%, respectively. Preoperative NT-proBNP levels were significantly higher in patients with chronic heart failure compared to those without (p=0.004). The incidence of postoperative acute heart failure was 29.2%, of which 70.6% occurred in patients with a history of chronic heart failure (p<0.001). Postoperative NT-proBNP levels were significantly elevated in female patients, those with hypertension, ischemic cardiomyopathy, preoperative chronic heart failure, and postoperative acute heart failure (p<0.001). Conclusion: Serum NT-proBNP levels increased significantly after cardiac surgery and were associated with factors such as female gender, hypertension, ischemic cardiomyopathy, preoperative chronic heart failure, and postoperative acute heart failure.
