Evaluating the cardiovascular risk in psoriasis vulgaris patients using Score2

Abstract

Objective: Psoriasis is a systemic inflammatory disease, which leads to cardiovascular comorbidities. This study aims to assess the cardiovascular risk in psoriasis vulgaris patients using SCORE2 (the Systematic COronary Risk Evaluation 2). Subject and method: This comparative cross-sectional study with a control group, involved 30 patients with psoriasis vulgaris and 30 non-psoriasis individuals. We confirmed psoriasis vulgaris by clinical symptoms and evaluated the disease’s severity using the Psoriasis Area and Severity Index (PASI) score. We also calculated the cardiovascular risk based on the SCORE2 scale. Data analysis was performed by SPSS.  Result: Male patients accounted for 66.67%. Some factors were associated with psoriasis vulgaris, such as smoking, HDL-c level, and central obesity (p<0.05). Using the SCORE2 scale, high cardiovascular risk was dominant in patients with psoriasis compared to the controls (33.33% versus 6.67%, p=0.01). We discovered that high cardiovascular risk was associated with metabolic syndrome (p=0.02). Conclusion: In patients with psoriasis vulgaris, our results noted a significantly high risk using the SCORE2 scale, compared to the controls. A high-risk score is associated with the presence of metabolic syndrome. This encourages us to build effective screening strategies for psoriasis patients in the future.
