Abstract

        Objective: this study aimed to describe several factors associated with surgical site infections (SSIs) among postoperative patients in selected surgical departments at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital from December 2024 to April 2025. Subjects and methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted with a total of 177 eligible patients according to selection criteria. Results: result shows an SSI incidence rate of 9.03%. The findings indicated that 7.4% of cases presented with necrotic wound beds and pseudomembranes. Most surgeries lasted between 1 to 3 hours (81.9%). Factors associated with SSIs included the amount and characteristics of exudate during dressing changes and the presence of pain at the surgical site with p < 0,05. Conclusion: The rate of surgical site infections in some surgical departments of Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital remained high level at the time of the study. Abnormal signs at the surgical site, such as necrosis, hematomas at the surgical site, and pain at the surgical site, indicate a high risk of surgical complications.
