Abstract

Objective: To describe hysteroscopic images and evaluate the outcomes of hysteroscopic surgery in the management of endometrial polyps. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 106 patients who underwent hysteroscopic polypectomy at the National Hospital of Obstetrics and Gynecology from January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023. Result: Reasons for hospital admission: 44.3% underwent routine gynecological examinations without symptoms, 50% presented with abnormal uterine bleeding, and 5.7% were evaluated for infertility. Diagnostic methods for endometrial polyps: 10.4% were diagnosed by 2D transvaginal ultrasound, 26.4% by saline infusion sonohysterography, and 62.3% by a combination of 2D transvaginal ultrasound and saline infusion sonohysterography. Hysteroscopic management techniques: 82.1% of polyps were removed using hysteroscopic instruments, 12.3% with the TrueClear system, 0.9% by curettage, 2.8% by polyp twisting combined with electrocauterization, and 1.9% by polyp twisting followed by curettage. Conclusion: The most common clinical presentation was abnormal uterine bleeding, although many cases were asymptomatic. The primary diagnostic method was the combination of 2D transvaginal ultrasound and saline infusion sonohysterography. The most frequently used treatment method was hysteroscopic polypectomy using conventional instruments.
