Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the risk of depression and anxiety in seborrheic dermatitis (SD) patients at Ho Chi Minh City Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology. Subject and method: This case-control study was conducted among 49 seborrheic dermatitis patients and 49 healthy controls from April 2024 to October 2024. Results: A total of 18.3% of SD patients were diagnosed with anxiety disorder, with a mean HADS-A score of 4.7 ± 2.9, which was statistically higher than that of the control group. SD patients were found to be 9 times more likely to develop anxiety disorder compared to the control group. Additionally, 16.3% of SD patients exhibited depression, with a mean HADS-D score of 4.3 ± 3.2, also significantly higher than the control group. SD patients were 8 times more likely to experience depression. Furthermore, 12.2% of SD patients had both anxiety and depression, significantly higher than the control group. No statistically significant relationship was observed between anxiety or depression and the duration or severity of SD. Conclusion: The risk of depression and anxiety in SD patients is significantly higher than in healthy controls.
