Abstract
Objectives: To determine the correlation between the diameter of the inferior vena cava (IVC) and central venous pressure (CVP) in patients with septic shock, and to assess the correlation between IVC and CVP. Subject and method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 111 patients with septic shock treated at the Department of Infectious Disease Intensive Care, 108 Military Central Hospital, from April 2024 to February 2025. The maximum IVC diameter (IVC-max), minimum IVC diameter (IVC-min), IVC collapsibility index (IVC-CI), and CVP were measured at the time of shock. Result: The mean CVP, IVC-min, IVC-max, and IVC-CI in patients with septic shock were 11.7 ± 5.99 cmH₂O, 9.75 ± 5.62 mm, 14.3 ± 5.21mm, and 37.2 ± 20.9%, respectively. CVP strongly positively correlated with IVC-max (r = 0.85, p 0.001), IVC-min (r = 0.88, p<0.001), and strongly negatively correlated with IVC-CI (r = -0.76, p<0.001). The optimal predictive model for CVP was CVP = -1.03792 + 1.10454 × IVC-min + 0.05358 × IVC-CI (r² = 0.790, post-test probability = 0.550). Conclusion: There was a strong correlation between IVC diameter, IVC collapsibility index, and central venous pressure.
