Assessment of the current status of antibiotic use in clean and clean-contaminated surgery at 108 Military Central Hospital in 2023

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the current status of antibiotic use in surgery on 20,230 clean and clean-contaminated surgical patients undergoing planned surgery at the surgical departments of 108 Military Central Hospital in 2023. Subject and method: A prospective descriptive study on clean and clean-contaminated surgical patients undergoing planned surgery at the surgical departments, 108 Military Central Hospital from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Result: 81.85% were prescribed antibiotic prophylaxis (PAP), 18.15% were prescribed prolonged antibiotic use after surgery, 75.34% of preoperative antibiotics were second-generation cephalosporins, 73.05% used only 1 injection before surgery and the surgical site infection rate was 1.15%. Conclusion: Adherence to guidelines for antibiotic prophylaxis in clean and clean-contaminated surgery is safe, effective, and economical.
