Abstract

Objective: To analyze the composition of the drug formulary used at the National Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology, Hanoi in 2023. Subject and method: A retrospective description of the list of drugs used at the hospital from January 1, 2023 to December 31, 2023. Result and conclusion: The hospital utilized 100% chemical pharmaceuticals and biologicals, with no traditional or herbal medicines. There were 163 drugs used with nineteen therapeutic groups; anesthetics, sedatives, muscle relaxants and neuromuscular blockers accounted for 46.09% of total utilization value. Imported drugs comprised 77.82% of utilization value, while originator brand-names drugs accounted for 14.80% in value. Single-component drugs dominated (90.18% in quantity, and parenteral administration was the principal route (79.86%). The drugs used were purchased mainly through hospital-level bidding (61.89%) in value, with all Group A anti-infective agents (100%) sourced through centralized tender and price negotiation. Groups of A, B, C drug accounted for the corresponding proportions of quantity: 11.66%, 17.18% and 71.17%, respectively; VEN analysis showed vital and essential drugs constituted 99.95% of utilization value, with no AN or BN agents according to the ABC/VEN matrix.
