Abstract

Objectives: To describe the characteristics and assess the outcomes of non-traumatic out-of-hospital cardiac arrest patients at Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital. Subjects and Methods: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 115 patients who suffered from out-of-hospital cardiac arrest due to medical causes, admitted to the Emergency Department of Vinh Phuc Provincial General Hospital. Result: Average age of the patients: 56.0; Male/Female: 2.83/1. Low percentage of patients transferred by ambulance. 9.6% of patients received cardiopulmonary resuscitation before arrival at the hospital. Most patients had an unclear medical history. 49.6% of cases were caused by cardiac issues. 14.8% of patients arrived at the hospital with an ECG that indicated potential for defibrillation. 37.4% of patients had restored circulation, but only 10.4% survived upon discharge. Conclusion: Most ROSC are achieved in < 30 minutes. It is essential to implement training and awareness programs, both directly and indirectly, to help the public understand how to identify and manage basic first aid for such cases. Most cardiac arrests occurred at home or on the street, emphasizing the need for public defibrillator systems to improve resuscitation outcomes.
