Abstract

Objective: To evaluate surgical outcomes of single-port endoscopic decompression for lumbar spinal stenosis at Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital. Subject and method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 35 patients with lumbar spinal stenosis who underwent uniportal endoscopic surgery at Quang Ninh Provincial General Hospital (January–June 2025). Inclusion criteria included neurogenic claudication, MRI findings of Schizas grade C or D stenosis, and failure of conservative treatment. Outcomes were evaluated using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS), Oswestry Disability Index (ODI), and Schizas grading before and after surgery. Result: Mean age was 62.2 ± 13.7 years; male/female ratio was 3:2. Preoperative scores: back VAS 2.08 ± 1.53; leg VAS 6.64 ± 0.91; ODI 69.6 ± 11.7. At 3 months postoperatively: Back VAS 1.04 ± 0.94; leg VAS 1.44 ± 1.16; ODI 16.8 ± 4.8. Postoperative MRI showed 96% canal area improvement (Schizas grade A). Mean operative time was 129.6 ± 25.1 minutes. According to the Macnab criteria: 68% excellent, 24% good, 8% fair. Complications included 1 dural tear and 2 wound seromas. Mean hospital stay was 4.32 ± 0.8 days. Conclusion: Uniportal endoscopic surgery for lumbar spinal stenosis is effective and safe, significantly improving symptoms and function with few complications and a short hospital stay, consistent with the trend toward minimally invasive surgery.
