Abstract
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of adjuvant chemotherapy in combination with trastuzumab in patients with HER2/-positive breast cancer. Subject and method: This retrospective descriptive study included 42 patients diagnosed with stage I–IIIA HER2-positive breast cancer who underwent either modified radical mastectomy or breast-conserving surgery with axillary lymph node dissection. All patients received adjuvant chemotherapy combined with trastuzumab at Viet Tiep Friendship Hospital between January 2018 and March 2025. Result: The most common age group was 50–59 years (31.0%). The majority of patients were diagnosed at stage II (69.1%). Modified radical mastectomy (Patey procedure) was performed in 88.1% of cases. The 5-year disease-free survival (DFS) rate was 78.6%. Neutropenia occurred in 57.1% of patients, with grade 3-4 neutropenia observed in 31.0%. Febrile neutropenia was reported in 28.6% of cases. No cases of grade 3-4 anemia or thrombocytopenia were reported. There were no treatment-related deaths or discontinuations due to neutropenia. Left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) remained stable in all patients, with no recorded decreases exceeding 10%. Conclusion: Adjuvant chemotherapy combined with trastuzumab demonstrated good efficacy with an acceptable toxicity profile.
