Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the outcomes of dysphagia rehabilitation and to identify several factors associated with rehabilitation outcomes in stroke patients at Thai Binh Provincial General Hospital in 2024. Subject and method: A prospective descriptive study was conducted on 93 stroke patients diagnosed with dysphagia based on the MASA (Mann Assessment of Swallowing Ability) scale. All patients received dysphagia rehabilitation interventions following the standardized protocols in rehabilitation medicine. Evaluations were performed at baseline (pre-treatment) and on the fourth day post-intervention. Result: After dysphagia rehabilitation, there was a statistically significant improvement in total MASA scores and in most subcomponents of the MASA scale (p<0.05). The proportion of patients requiring nasogastric tube placement decreased from 22.6% to 9.8%. Pre-intervention factors including age group, gender, time of intervention after stroke, and severity of dysphagia were significantly associated with the improvement in swallowing function, as assessed by the MASA, after 4 days of intervention (p<0.05). Conclusion: Dysphagia rehabilitation is an effective therapeutic intervention for treating post-stroke dysphagia. Multiple factors should be considered when predicting rehabilitation outcomes, in order to guide further treatment planning for patients with dysphagia following rehabilitation.
