Abstract

Objective: The aim of this study is to identify the association between the characteristics of spontaneous portosystemic shunts (SPSS) on multi-slice CT (MSCT) and clinical characteristics of patients with cirrhosis. Subject and method: This is a cross-sectional study of 90 patients with cirrhosis that were treated at 103 Military Hospital from April 2024 to March 2025. Comparisons between the characteristics of SPSS on MSCT with Child-Pugh score, bleeding and ascites were performed. Result: There were significant differences bwteen Child-Pugh score and the number, diameter of SPSS. Patients with large SPSS and multiple SPSS also had a larger number of portal hypertension-related bleeding than those with small SPSS and without SPSS. ROC curve shows the predictive ability of esophageal diameter on MSCT for predicting the bleeding with AUC = 0.816, Se 80.8%, Sp 70.3%, cutoff 4.95mm, p<0.001. Conclusion: There was a association between the number, diameter of SPSS on MSCT with Child-Pugh and bleeding. The diameter of esophageal varix on MSCT was a significant predictive factor for bleeding
