Abstract

Objective: To provide a comprehensive structure of medical costs and analyze factors affecting the inpatient medical cost of colorectal cancer at the Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Center, Bach Mai Hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional description was conducted on 122 patients diagnosed with colorectal cancer, had health insurance and received inpatient treatment at the Nuclear Medicine and Oncology Center, Bach Mai Hospital in 2023. Result: The average total cost of CRC treatment was 207,373,000 VND. Direct medical costs, non-medical direct costs, and indirect costs accounted for 71.6%, 26.5%, and 1.9%, respectively. Factors associated with increased costs included disease stage, treatment options, and the number of hospitalizations, whereas age was associated with reduced costs. Conclusion: Direct medical costs account for the highest proportion, with the majority focusing on drug and infusion costs. Health insurance plays an important role in covering most of these costs.
