The clinical and paraclinical characteristics of twin pregnancies at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department of Thai Nguyen National Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the results of twin pregnancy management at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Center of Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from June 2021 to June 2023. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study using retrospective sampling based on medical records of 105 pregnant women with twins gestational age ≥ 22 weeks at Thai Nguyen Central Hospital from June 1, 2021 to June 30, 2023. Result: The average age of pregnant women was 29.34 ± 5.12 years. There were 96 cases of cesarean section, accounting for 91.4%, and 9 cases of vaginal delivery, accounting for 8.6%. The average weight of fetus 1 was 2407 ± 356.6 grams, and fetus 2 was 2353.2 ± 376.3 grams. The rate of infants admitted to the NICU was 17.6%, the rate of postnatal mortality was 2.4%, and the rate of intrauterine fetal death was 1.4%. The rate of complications of twin pregnancy was 6.7%. There were 9 postpartum uterine atony mothers (8.6%); 5 mothers with genital trauma complications (5.7%). 2 mothers with postpartum infection (1.9%). Conclusion: Twin pregnancy is a high-risk pregnancy for both mother and fetus. The rate of cesarean section is increasing in the outcome of twin pregnancy termination. Complications of twin pregnancy affect postpartum outcomes as well as neonatal outcomes
