Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical and paraclinical characteristics and evaluate the outcomes of transurethral en bloc resection for superficial bladder tumors at the 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: A retrospective and prospective study was conducted on 41 patients with superficial bladder tumors who underwent transurethral en bloc resection at the 108 Military Central Hospital from April 2023 to April 2024. Result: The mean age was 61.6 ± 13.1 years. The male-to-female ratio was 7.2:1. 87.8% of bladder tumors were diagnosed for the first time, 85.4% were solitary tumors, and 79.5% had a stalk. 100% of surgeries were successful, with no conversions to open surgery. The incidence of obturator nerve stimulation was 19.5%, and no other major complications were observed. The mean surgical duration was 21.8 ± 9.9 minutes. The average duration of urethral catheter placement was 1.8 ± 0.8 days, and the average hospital stay was 3.2 ± 1.2 days. The presence of smooth muscle in the bladder specimen was found in 63.41% of cases. Conclusion: En-bloc transurethral resection of bladder tumor (ERBT) is a safe and effective method for cases of superficial bladder tumors; there were no bladder perforations or postoperative complications.
