Abstract
Melioidosis is a multi syndrome illness due to infection by Burkholderia pseudomallei; it mostly affects tropical areas including Vietnam. Pneumonia, skin, and genito-urinary tract are the predominant manifestations of melioidosis, in addition, septic arthritis, and deep seat abscesses in the central nervous system and intraabdominal occasionally occur. Nevertheless, mediastinal abscess due to melioidosis has been scarce worldwide. Herein, we present a rare case of melioidosis with mediastinal abscesses that is difficult to diagnose, a sequential thoracic CT scan found the abscess. The patient was successfully recovered following an operation for drainage pus and prolonged systemic antibiotic.
