Abstract

Introduction: This study aims to investigate the characteristics of pathogenic fungi, to evaluate the appropriateness of antifungal therapies, and to identify treatment outcomes at Children's Hospital 2. Subject and method: A retrospective descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted based on analysis of 239 medical records of patients who have been prescribed with antifungal therapy for invasive fungal infections from 01/01/2022 to 30/9/2022. The appropriateness of antifungal agent was assessed based on the "Guidelines for Diagnosis and Treatment of Invasive Fungal Infections" issued by the Ministry of Health in 2021. Result: Candida albicans, Candida tropicalis, and Candida parapsilosis represented 41.6%, 21.8%, and 19.8%, respectively. The prevalence of Aspergillus specimens isolated was 2.0%. The overall appropriate use of antifungal medications was 94.1%. The rate of mortality observed was 13.4%. Conclusion: The study provided an overview on characteristics of invasive fungal infections and treatment in pediatric patients, which could contribute in establishing a specific treatment guideline for this population.
