Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the association between serum phosphate level and acute kidney injury (AKI) in patients with septic shock. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 94 patients with septic shock treated at the Intensive Care Unit of 108 Military Central Hospital from January to October 2023. Patients were classified based on the development of AKI according to AKIN criteria. Serum phosphate levels were measured within the first 24 hours, and clinical data were collected for analysis. Result: Among the 94 patients, 68 (72.3%) developed AKI. Serum phosphate levels in the AKI group (1.58 mmol/L) were significantly higher compared to the non-AKI group (0.95 mmol/L), with p<0.001. Serum phosphate level predicted AKI with an area under the ROC curve (AUC) of 0.78, a cutoff value of 1.07 mmol/L, sensitivity of 70.6%, and specificity of 76.9% (p<0.001). Conclusion: Serum phosphate level is associated with the developmentof acute kidney injury in patients with septic shock.
