Abstract

Objective: To determine the incidence and evaluate several factors related to early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia. Subject and method: A prospective, descriptive study was conducted, following 100 renal transplant recipients from living donors at 103 Military Hospital from March 2023 to December 2023, with a follow-up period after transplantation of 45 days. Result: The incidence of early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia was 74% of all patients. Patients over 40 years old, overweight/obesity, pre-transplant impaired glucose tolerance were at a higher risk of early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia compared to other patients groups, with respective odds ratios of 3.96, 3.91, and 4.75, p<0.05. However, multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed that only overweight/obesity was a risk factor for early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia, with an odds ratio of 3.73, p<0.05. Conclusion: Hyperglycemia occurs in the majority of patients in the early post-renal transplant period. The age of patients over 40, overweight/obesit and pre-transplant impaired glucose tolerance were risk factors for early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia. Among these, overweight/obesity is an independent risk factor for early post-renal transplant hyperglycemia.
