Active monitoring of linezolid-related adverse events in the antibiotic stewardship program at Thanh Nhan Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To analyze the efficacy of active surveillance for adverse events related to linezolid in the antimicrobial stewardship program at Thanh Nhan Hospital. Subject and method: Prospective intervention study in patients with linezolid order form from September 2022 to February 2023 through clinical pharmacy activities. Result: Clinical pharmacists monitored 282 patients with approved linezolid order form for adverse events (AEs) during a 6-month period. During this period, there were 127 AEs recorded, which was much higher than the previous 7 years (9 AEs). The most common adverse reaction was thrombocytopenia (18.5%) predominantly mild to moderate. The study recorded 3 patients with absolute contraindicated drug-drug interactions related to linezolid. A total of 241 discussions/warnings/interventions were conducted with a consensus rate of 95.4%. Conclusion: Active surveillance through clinical pharmacy activities in antimicrobial stewardship program could be useful in detection, warning, management, and prevention of linezolid-related AEs.
