Abstract
Objective: To investigate pathological alterations in white matter bundles in brain tumor patients using 3.0 Tesla Diffusion Tensor Imaging (DTI). Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study on 30 brain tumor patients and a control group of 30 normal individuals from November 2019 to May 2022. The investigation focused on specific white matter bundles, including the corpus callosum, fornix-hippocampus, cingulum bundle, frontal-occipital fasciculus, corticospinal tract, thalamo-cingulum bundle, and cerebellar peduncle. Result: 3D reconstructions illustrated displacements or truncations of white matter bundles. The decrease of number of fibers, voxel indice, FA and the increase of ADC were noted, indicating both localized and spreading impacts of the tumor on white matter bundles. Conclusion: In brain tumors, precise delineation of boundaries and the extent of tumor impact on adjacent white matter structures is crucial for diagnosis and surgery. DTI was proven as an effective method for investigating white matter alterations in brain tumor patients.
