Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the value of combination of neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and HAP (the harmless acute pancreatitis) score for prognosis of severe acute pancreatitis (AP). Subject and method: Prospective, cross-sectional descriptive study carried out on 111 patients with AP at Digestive Department and Internal Medicine Emergency Department - 103 Military Hospital. NLR and HAP score were assessed at admission and compared with AP grade based on the 2012 Revised Atlanta Classification. Result: NLR and HAP scores both had good values in predicting moderate/severe AP with AUC of 0.74 (95%CI: 0.65-0.84) and 0.75 (95%CI: 0.66-0.84), respectively. Combination of NLR and HAP scores helped improve the ability in predicting moderate and severe AP to a good level with AUC 0.82 (95%CI: 0.74-0.90), sensitivity of 52.9%, specificity reached 100%. Conclusion: Combining two simple parameters, NLR and HAP scores helps increase accuracy in predicting AP.
