Abstract

Objective: To investigate the frequency of the single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) rs2069718 of the IFN-γ gene and its association with insulin resistance in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Subject and method: The cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted on 180 patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. SNP genotype was determined by allele-specific PCR method. Result: In type 2 diabetes patients, rs2069718 AA genotype had the predominant proportion with 65.00%, followed by AG genotype with 29.44%, and GG genotype with 5.56% in type 2 diabetes mellitus patients. The patients with AG genotype had lower insulin concentrations than patients with GG genotype (p=0.0129) and had a lower HOMA-IR index than patients with AA genotype (p=0.0230). Conclusion: In type 2 diabetes mellitus patients, the proportion of rs2069718 AA, AG and GG genotypes in IFN-γ gene were 65.00%, 29.44% and 5.56%, respectively. The patients with AG genotype had lower insulin concentrations than patients with GG genotype and had a lower HOMA-IR index than patients with AA genotype.
