Abstract

Objective: To evaluate the results of retropubic radical prostatectomy in the treatment of prostate cancer. Subject and method: A descriptive prospective study was performed on patients with prostate cancer indicated for radical prostatectomy at 108 Military Central Hospital. Result: 30 consecutive prostate cancer patients were undergone retropubic radical prostatectomy from July 2018 to June 2023. The mean age was 67.5, and tumor stages T1-2-3 were 6.7%, 83.3% and 10%, respectively. The mean operation time was 167 minutes, the average blood loss was 508ml with 43.3% intraoperative transfusion, and rectal injury was found in 2 patients (6.7%). There was 1 patient required endoscopic surgery due to bladder neck stenosis; the rate of urinary continence was 95.6% at 3 months after surgery. Evaluation of surgical results: The rates of good - average and bad results were 80% - 16.7% and 3.3%, respectively. Conclusion: Retropubic radical prostatectomy was complicated surgery with the long operation time and the high rate of blood loss as well as intraoperative transfusion.
