Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the effectiveness of treatment of moderate and severe acne vulgaris with oral isotretinoin combined zinc (ISO-Z). Subject and method: A controlled clinical trial. 90 patients with moderate and severe acne vulgaris were randomly selected into two groups (45 patients/group), the study group (ISO-Z) used ISO 20mg/day and zinc 40mg/day, and the control group (ISO) only used ISO 20mg/day, the treatment period was 4 months. Changes in disease severity, GAGS scores and treatment response level were evaluated before, during, and after treatment to compare treatment effects in the two groups. Result: Effective improvement in disease severity and treatment response level, GAGS scores were shown in both groups after treatment. However, ISO-Z improved disease severity and disease improvement, GAGS scores in more than 90% of patients, with a difference from ISO after the 3rd and 4th month of treatment. The clinical side effects encountered more frequently in the control group compared to the study group include acne breakouts in the first and second months following the treatment. Conclusion: In treating moderate and severe acne vulgaris, isotretinoin combined with zinc has better treatment effects than using isotretinoin alone.
