Abstract

Objective: To survey the factors related to the joint health scores - HJHS 2.1 of hemophilia patients in Northern Vietnam. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study of hemophilia patients in 4 provinces/cities in North Vietnam from December 2021 to April 2022. Result: A total of 82 patients (mean age 27 ± 12 years) with hemophilia A (n = 61) and B (n = 21) were evaluated. The median HJHS total score was 24 (range 9-45). HJHS scores had differences between age groups and disease severity. We found that HJHS scores were positively and strongly correlated with age and the average annual number of joint bleeding, but no differences between hemophilia A or B were observed. Conclusion: The HJHS total score is relatively high and unevenly distributed, and joint mobility is highly limited. Therefore, people with hemophilia should participate in regular joint function testing programs at all ages and combine comprehensive, long-term rehabilitation. People with hemophilia need to be educated about methods of prevention, joint protection, and ensuring a source of medicine that will help them control the number of joint bleeding each year.
