Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the initial results of retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for pelvic stone and upper ureteral stone at 103 Central Hospital of the Lao People's Army. Subject and method: A prospective cross-sectional case-series study was perfomed on patients with pelvic stone and/or upper ureteral stone who were treated by retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery at Department of Urologic Surgery, 103 Central Hospital of the Lao People's Army, from June 1st to August 2nd, 2023. Result: 19 patients had an average age of 42.6 years, 16 male patients (84.2%) and 3 female patients (15.8%); 9 pelvic stones and 13 upper ureteral stones had the largest average size of 17.8mm. Overall success rate of laparoscopic surgery was 95.4%, 1 case of pelvic stone was converted to open surgery. The average operation time was 86 minutes, the average bowel movement after 1.1 days, the average urethral catheterization 4.9 days. All patients were good convalescence and discharged within 1 week after surgery. There were no serious complications/complications during and after surgery. Conclusion: Retroperitoneal laparoscopic surgery for pelvic/upper ureteral stone removal is a safe and highly effective minimally invasive intervention suitable to the actual situation, which can completely replace open surgery with the same indications.
