Abstract

Objective: Our study determined changes in morphology and function of the right heart on echocardiography in patients undergoing ASD closure. Subject and method: The prospective, longitudinal, observational study evaluated the right heart morphology and function before, 24 hours, 1 week, 1 month, 3 months and 6 months after the intervention in 206 ASD patients with transcatheter closure. The study was conducted at the University Medical Center, Ho Chi Minh City, from September 2019 to March 2023. Result: Prior to intervention, right atrial dilatation and right ventricle (RV) dilatation occurred in 100% and 98.1% of patients, respectively, and decreased to 98.1% and 89.7% after six months. In particular, the rate of moderate and severe tricuspid regurgitation decreased from 39.8% and 11.2% before intervention to 20.5% and 1.3% 6 months after the precedure, respectively. After intervention, the RV systolic function was briefly reduced, but it gradually improved after one month. Conclusion: Transcatheter ASD closure enhances the favorable remodeling of the right heart's morphology, improves it’sfunction, and significantly reduced tricuspid regurgitation of all severity.
