Distribution and antimicrobial resistant pattern of bacterial pathogen isolated at the Institute of Trauma - Orthopedics at 108 Military Central Hospital in 2022

Abstract
Objective: To investigate common bacterial pathogens and antibiotic resistant of isolated bacteria at the Institute of Trauma - Orthopedics at 108 Military Central Hospital in 2022. Subject and method: A retrospective cross-sectional descriptive study was conducted in 639 microbiological samples from infected patients at the Institute of Trauma - Orthopedics in 2022. Result: The rate of bacterial cultures with positive results accounted for 40.4%. The isolated bacteria were predominantly from abscess fluid specimens, accounting for 94.6%, primarily in skin and soft tissues. Gram-positive accounting for 56.2%, with Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus) made up 46.9%. Regarding to S. aureus, the proportion of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was 80% and and all isolated strains of S. aureus remained sensitive to vancomycin. Escherichia coli strains producing extended-spectrum beta-lactamase (ESBL) accounted for above 87%, with around 100% sensitive to carbapenems. Conclusion: Gram (+) is the common bacteria, made up 56.2%, with S. aureus being the highest prevalent at 46.9%. Regarding to S. aureus, the proportion of methicillin-resistant S. aureus (MRSA) was 80% and and all isolated strains of S. aureus remained sensitive to vancomycin.
