Abstract

The brain is an unusual site for distant metastases of papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC), with a frequency of  0.15%-1.3%. The metastases from PTC often dissiminate to lungs, bones, soft tissuses and brain... with poor prognosis. However, few of those brain metastatic patients have initial neurological symptoms suggestive of brain lesions. MRI, 131I-whole-body scan, SPECT/CT and 18F-FDG PET/CT) could detect brain metastasis. There are no standardized therapy strategies for metastatic brain lesions from PTC but mainly rely on brain metastatic cancer treatment guidelines and clinical experiences. We present a case series of brain metastasis patients from papillary thyroid carcinoma in Nuclear Medicine Department, 108 Military Central  Hospital  in recent 5 years and discusses treatment approaches in those rare patients.
