Abstract
Reconstructive orthopedic procedures widely use bone graft materials to promote new bone formation and bone healing. The early assessment of the bone viability is really useful for orthopedist. Bone scan using 99mTc MDP is a simple, noninvasive method which proved as effective tool in the assessment of the bone graft viability. 99mTc MDP uptake in bone reflects the blood flow and metabolic activity of the flap, which is an indirect evidence of bone survival. We used three-phase bone scintigraphy and SPECT/CT for assessment of 6/14 patients at 3-4 month after limb salvage surgery using tumour-bearing autograft treated by liquid nitrogen in the Vinmec Hospital systems. Correlation with clinical, function of tumor-bearing limb and union on the bone radiography following demonstrated that in addition to assessment of local recurrence, distal metastasis and common post-operative complications, the modality could allow for assessment of graft viability, union at osteotomy sites earlier than bone radiography and provide more detailed information to clinicians for follow-up, treatment and prognosis. In this article, we presented a case report, presenting with osteosarcoma of right tibia IIb stage underwent 99mTc MDP imaging in the assessment of the bone tumor-bearing autogralf
