Abstract

Objective: To study the status of lactation, some factors related lactation and knowledge and practice of breastfeeding mothers after cesarean section at the Obstetrics and Gynecology Department - 103 Military Hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional descriptive study, convenient sampling of 200 women by cesarean section. Result: Most of them were multiparous women (67.5%), most of the study subjects had indications for caesarean section during labor (88%). The average time of lactation was 60.9 ± 11.4 hours, in which the percentage of women appearing on lactation after 72 hours for 56%. The majority of mothers had knowledge about the benefits of breast milk (91.5%). About skills, 66% of mothers knew the position of the baby when breastfeeding. There was a linear correlation between the quantity of history of childbirth, occupational group, cesarean section, antibiotic use and the lactation time (p<0.05). There was no statistically significant relationship between age, education level, the method of insensitivity, using a breast pump and the let-down point (p>0.05). Conclusion: Most women who have a cesarean section have good knowledge about breastfeeding, but breastfeeding practices are still limited. Lactation time is related to history of childbirth, occupational group, cesarean section, antibiotic use.
