Abstract
Objective: To describe the clinical features and the correlation between serum IGF-1 level and severity of acne vulgaris. Subject and method: Case series on 59 patients with acne vulgaris who met the enrollment criteria. Result: The pustular acne accounted for the highest rate (45.8%). The moderate acne severity according to GAGS accounted for the highest percentage (50.8%), the average GAGS score was 20.85 ± 5.55. The serum IGF-1 levels were statistically significant between the groups of different severity (p<0.001). Serum IGF-1 levels in the severe and the moderate group were statistically higher compared with the mild group (p=0.001 in both). Serum IGF-1 level and GAGS scores had a relatively strong positive correlation (Pearson correlation coefficient r = 0.615, p<0.001, r2 = 0.379). Conclusion: The clinical form of pustular acne is the most common. The serum IGF-1 levels between the groups of different severity were statistically significant, there was a relatively strong positive correlation between serum IGF-1 level and the GAGS score.
