Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the prevalence of common respiratory diseases and their changes over the five years from 2014 to 2018 at the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: A retrospective study of hospital discharge records of all hospitalized patients at the Department of Tuberculosis and Lung Disease, 108 Military Central Hospital from 2014 to 2018, the diagnosis was taken according to the discharged diagnosis. Result: Mean of age was 64.83 years old, maximum was 99 years old, minimum was 12 yearss old, the rate of male/female was 3/1. The number of patient in 2014 was 1338 cases, 2015: 1234 cases, 2016: 1417 cases, 2017: 1590 cases and 2018: 1619 cases, in which, lung cancer was the highest with 59.7%, this was follow by COPD at 11.26% and tuberculosis 9.7%. There was the rise of the percentage of lung cancer patient, from 38% in 2014 to 66.8% in 2018 (p<0.05). As for other respiratory diseases, the difference was not statistically significant. The ratio of tuberculosis patients and asthma patients decreased. Conclusion: The number of respiratory hospitalized patients are on the increasing, especially lung cancer patients doubled after 5 years, this is a very alarming thing, whereas, other respiratory diseases changing are not statistically significant.
