Evaluating nutritional status in patients diagnosed with ear, nose and throat cancer being treated at 108 Military Central Hospital

Abstract
Objective: To evaluate nutritional status in patients diagnosed with ear, nose and throat cancer being treated at 108 Military Central Hospital. Subject and method: A cross-sectional study was conducted on 120 patients at the Department of Otolaryngology and Outpatients at the Department of Radiation Therapy - Radiosurgery of 108 Military Central Hospital from January 2022 to June 2022, who diagnosed with ENT cancer. The BMI formula and the PG-SGA assessment toolkit were used. Result: 25% of patients were at PG-SGA level B (moderate malnutrition); 35.8% of patients were at PG-SGA level C (severe malnutrition). 30/120 stage III, IV cancer patients had PG-SGA level C (25.0%). Conclusion: This study showed that ENT cancer patients had a high risk of malnutrition. Therefore, nutritional support is especially important, medical staff need to screen and advise on appropriate nutrition for patients and must regularly check and evaluate nutritional status to avoid the risk of malnutrition affect the outcome of treatment.
