Distribution of blood group ABO system and demand for using blood products in cardiology surgery patients at Bach Mai Hospital, phase 2020-2022

Abstract
Objective: To determine the percentage of ABO blood group and the current status of using blood products in the group of surgical patients at Bach Mai Hospital in the period of 2020-2022. Subject and method: A cross-sectional description of 1,388 patients. Surgery at Bach Mai Hospital from 06/2020 to 06/2022. Result and conclusion: Ratio of blood group ABO: A: 23.1%, B: 29.3%, O: 40.7% and AB: 6.9%. The proportion of patients undergoing cardiovascular surgery with blood transfusion was 91.8% with 9,703 units of blood products, in which red blood cells accounted for the highest percentage and used in coronary artery disease higher than valvular heart disease and congenital heart disease, platelet use was higher in valvular heart disease than in coronary artery disease, fresh plasma was used in higher valvular heart disease and coronary artery disease than congenital heart disease.
