Epidemiology and clinical features of patients with dermatophytosis at Binh Thuan Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology in 2019

Abstract

Objective: To study epidemiology and clinical features of patients with dermatophytosis visited Binh Thuan Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology. Subject and method: We performed a descriptive cross-sectional study consisting of 196 patients with dermatophytoses visited the out-patient clinical rooms in Binh Thuan Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology from February 2019 to October 2019. The diagnosis of those dermatophytoses was made by clinical features and direct microscopic examination of the wet mount preparation made by scraping the affected areas. Result: Women consisted of 55.6%, the mean age was 36 ± 2.5 with the most common age group was 21 - 40 (54.6%). 63.3% of the patients lived in rural areas and 53.1% had a family history of dermatophytoses. 45% of the patients had dermatophytosis in more than 6 months. In terms of symptoms, 65.8% of the patients had pruritus and 52.6% had a burning sensation of the skin. The morphology of the lesions was polycyclic, central clearing of the lesions and scaling in 83.7%, 66.3% and 70.9% of the patients, respectively. The trunk was the most common site of predilection and 90.3% of the lesions were ≤ 5% body surface areas. Conclusion: Patient with dermatophytosis in Binh Thuan Hospital of Dermatology and Venereology have some characteristics such as: In rural region, family history of dermatophytosis, long time disease, typical lesions.
