Abstract
Objective: To evaluate the analgesic effects of the subcutaneous injections of hydrocortison plus lidocain in the treatment of post herpetic neuralgia. Review some clinical side effects during and after treatment. Subject and method: Prospective, intervention, self-evidence, following up and descriptively studying 83 patients diagnosed and treated for post herpetic neuralgia at the Pain Management Unit, the Department of Surgery and treatment on demand, the Multi-Medical Examination Center, Department and treatment on request, 108 Military Central Hospital from August 1, 2020 to August 1, 2021. These patients, were indicated to get subcutaneous injections of hydrocortisone plus lidocain according to the accepted process, assessed the efficacy of anti-analgesia after the first injections and 3 months from the beginning of therapy. Result: Changes in pain scale VAS - 0 (before treatment): 5.87 ± 1.54; VAS-1 (after 1 week of treatment): 3.64 ± 1.68; VAS-2 (after 4 weeks of treatment): 2.07 ± 1.38; VAS-3 (after 3 months of treatment): 0.73 ± 1.16. Comparison of pain relief results between treatments with p<0.001. The change of the SF-36 mean score on quality of life of patients before treatment: 33.24 ± 12.98 and after treatment: 77.76 ± 8.06 with p<0.001. Pain relief result were good and very good (78.3%). Side effects were rare and rarely require treatment. Conclusion: The subcutaneous injections of hydrocortison plus lidocain in the treatment of post herpetic neuralgia give very good results, safe and effective pain relief results, significantly improving the quality of life of patients. The difference is statistically significant. However, further studies are needed to confirm those results.
